One person was killed and multiple lanes of westbound Interstate Highway 80 in Berkeley were blocked following a crash early Christmas morning.

The wreck occurred about 5:11 p.m. Saturday at Highway 152 at Lovers Lane about five miles east of Gilroy, said CHP Sgt. Mark McNabb. A Jaguar was headed west "at a high rate of speed" when it veered into the eastbound lane and slammed head-on into a white GMC van.

The maximum enforcement period will run through New Year's Eve.

"Be cautious and try to get to the right hand shoulder if there is one," the CHP said.

The San Francisco Fire Department tweeted at 11:21 a.m. that the crash occurred Lake Merced Boulevard and John Muir Drive and the roadway is blocked. 

The CHP said an air ambulance was called to the scene, but the two people were pronounced dead before the rescue helicopter arrived.

The traffic alert was issued at 1:23 p.m. by the California Highway Patrol. Motorists are advised to expect delays and use alternate routes to avoid the area.

"There was a lot of gravel," CHP Officer Art Montiel said.

Traffic on northbound Interstate 101 in Mountain View was at a standstill Wednesday morning for an overturned vehicle crash. 

The crash was first reported around 3:09 a.m. Saturday, just east of Camino Pablo.

At least one person has died following a multiple-vehicle traffic collision on the northbound U.S. Highway 101 connector to Interstate Highway 280 in San Jose early Sunday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A Redwood City man was killed when he was ejected from a Lexus SUV that crashed into the wall of the 25th Street off-ramp of southbound Interstate Highway 280 on Sunday morning, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.
