Berkeley council will vote on expanding license plate readers

The Berkeley City Council will decide on a proposal to install 52 license plate reader cameras on streetlights and roads throughout the city. Berkeley police said the plan, if approved, would help them tackle car thefts and other criminal activities.

Animal activists applaud the closing of Golden Gate Fields

Animal activists are applauding the decision announced over the weekend, that the Stronach Group, which owns Golden Gate Fields, will discontinue horse racing at the East Bay racetrack at the end of the year. 

Golden Gate Fields to end racing at the end of the year

Animal activists are applauding the decision by the owners of Golden Gate Fields to close it's thoroughbred horse racing track in the East Bay at the end of the year. The track has been in operation since 1941. Eight race horses have died at Golden Gate Fields since January of 2023.

Woman robbed at gunpoint near UC Berkeley

A woman was robbed at gunpoint near the University of California at Berkeley campus Friday night, according to the University of California police department.
