An emotional vigil was held in the South Bay on Wednesday for pregnant 19-year-old Tatyanna Lopez, who was killed two weeks before her expected delivery date, in Merced back in April.

Seven Bay Area schools are among 28 in the state and 325 nationwide that were recognized Tuesday as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2021, U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona announced.   

Gilroy police identified the man who was shot and killed by an officer early Wednesday as 40-year-old David Lopez, a resident of the city who was wanted for attempted murder.

Officers responded around 2:30 a.m. to a report of an intoxicated man in the 100 block of Fourth Street. The first officer who arrived at the scene encountered the man and within seconds he shot at the officer, authorities said.

On Tuesday, Brady Legal and the Scarlet Law Group announced they have approval from the court to name Century Arms LLC., the gun manufacturer of the weapon used the Gilroy Garlic Festival shooter, in their case.

Firefighters in the South Bay have contained four separate vegetation fires in Santa Clara County, Cal Fire officials said on Wednesday. 

For over 40 years, the Gilroy Garlic Festival has been a summertime tradition that attracts visitors from all over the Bay Area to indulge in all things garlic.

Organizers of the Gilroy Garlic Festival say the event will resume this summer, but it will be a lot different.

On Monday at around 2:20 p.m., Gilroy police responded to a home on the 1700 block of Mantelli Drive on reports of an explosion.

A search of the residence found "precursor materials" for making additional explosives, police said.

Gilroy Police Department have closed a road after an explosion injured a man on Monday. 

The Gilroy Library, located at 350 West Sixth St., will be open from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday to Monday.
