Wildfire smoke prompts regional air quality advisory

Wildfire smoke from Southern and Central California is expected to move into the Bay Area over the next couple of days, prompting the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to issue an air quality advisory for Friday and Saturday.

The ancient massive trees of Sequoia National Park’s famed Giant Forest were unscathed Tuesday even though a wildfire has been burning near them on the western side of California’s Sierra Nevada for nearly two weeks.

A group of giant sequoias known as the Four Guardsmen in in Sequoia National Park were unharmed after the KNP Complex Fire burned near the grove. Firefighters had wrapped the famous trees in a protective materialat their base and cleared away other nearby vegetation to save the trees.

4 famous giant trees unharmed by Sequoia National Park fire

The Four Guardsmen, a group of trees that form a natural entryway on the road to the forest, were successfully protected from the KNP Complex fire by the removal of nearby vegetation and by wrapping fire-resistant material around the bases of the trees, the firefighting management team said in a statement Sunday.
