Grade Fire breaks out in Santa Cruz mountains

Firefighters contained a wildfire that broke out Monday morning in the Santa Cruz mountains. Known as the Grade Fire, it started in an area that was burned by last summer's massive CZU Lightning Complex fire.

California governor pardons inmate firefighters

California's governor has pardoned more than a dozen people, including two inmate firefighters who faced deportation, and commuted the sentences of three people who were convicted of killings where they didn't pull the trigger. 

Oakland swears in a new fire chief

Reginald Freeman was sworn in as the chief of Oakland's fire department on Monday and spoke about the challenges facing the city, including the threat of wildfires in the hills.

Palisades Fire in Los Angeles forces evacuations

The Palisades Fire, a smoky wildfire churning through a Los Angeles canyon community, gained strength Sunday as about a thousand residents remained under evacuation orders, authorities said.
