Breaking mental health stigmas in the AAPI community

The month of May is a time to shine a light on Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage. It's also Mental Health Awareness Month. Experts say the AAPI community has been disproportionately affected by the mental health stigma. Data from the United States Department of Health and Human Services show that the AAPI community has the lowest rate of people seeking help than any other. In fact, the report finds that just 23% of adults in the AAPI community sought out treatment for a mental health illness in 2019. Dr. Rita Ng, who is the physician-in-chief at Kaiser Permanente's Oakland Medical Center, joins The Nine to give more insight, as well as resources, to the community.
