Afghan Adjustment Act: evacuees hope for path to legal status in U.S.
More than a year after the US’s chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, it’s estimated 82,000 Afghans were evacuated to America. This includes thousands who assisted the US’s mission in Afghanistan. Now, many of those people are in status limbo because they are humanitarian parolees, without a clear path to permanent legal status. This act introduced by members of both parties, in both chambers, would create a clear path to status for those who are eligible and who agree to additional screening.
