In-Depth with Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao

Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao says the Ceasefire strategy that she resurrected is effectively deterring crime in the city and that there is data to support this claim. She says there are tools in place like license plate readers that can be used to make arrests in robberies and burglaries, but they can also be used to catch illegal dumpers. Mayor Thao would not take a strong stance on Prop 36 that strengthen penalties for properties and drug crimes. While she supports strengthening penalties she says we should take a more nuanced approach to prevent crimes from happening.
