Every 40 seconds, someone in the United States experiences a stroke, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Even more troubling, strokes are among the nation’s leading causes of death and disability. A stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is interrupted, either by a blocked blood clot or a burst blood vessel.
