The history and impacts of the Alien Enemies Act of 1798

Attorney Carl Takei of the Asian Law Caucus discusses the origins of the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, as well as the impact it had when it was last implemented during World War II to incarcerate non-citizens of Japanese, German, and Italian heritage. Now, the ACLU, Democracy forward and Japanese American grassroots groups are challenging the Trump administration's use of the Alien Enemies Act for deportations.
