4 adults dead inside Santa Rosa home, police confirm

The Santa Rosa Police Department has confirmed four adults have been found dead inside a home on Wednesday.

A police sergeant told KTVU they arrived on the scene of the home on the 200 block of Monarch Court at West 3rd Street this afternoon and found the individuals inside the home but could not confirm the cause of death yet.

Police said there is not believed to be a threat to public safety at this time, though they are investigating the deaths as a homicide. They will provide an update to the community as more information becomes available.

Lieutenant Christopher Mahurin said an officer arrived at the scene just after 3 p.m. to respond to a welfare check that came from a family member of the residence. That officer saw signs that he needed to make forced entry into the residence, according to police. Once the officer entered, that's when the bodies were discovered inside the house.

Police at the scene only said they would later release any causes of death and suspect information if that is relevant. Police confirmed the bodies were those of adults, but would not confirm if any of them were related or if they were family members. Police also did not indicate how long the dead bodies were inside the home.

The home is located in a quiet residential community called Valle Vista for people aged 55 and up.

"I did not hear gunshots. A neighbor had said that it was reported they had heard gunshots earlier," said Geri Tapparo, who lives nearby.

"I've never seen them. I noticed the police have been out here a couple of times in the last few months, to that residence, talking to them for whatever disturbance maybe, but I've never seen anybody come in or out. It’s just always quiet; it seems empty like nobody lives there," she added.

Police could be seen carrying pets out of the home in crates.

"I saw a police officer carrying a white dog and put it in a car, but animal control came back with two trucks and I guess they took cats and dogs," said Dick Donati.

"I walk by it all the time, but I've never seen anyone in the yard," he added.

"It’s just horrific. I just can’t even believe it because, for one thing, it’s all old people here," Donati's wife Rosemary added.

News of the deaths shocked neighbors in the tight-knit community.

"Scared, scared," said neighbor Henry McClain, who described the street as "a quiet neighborhood."

"In 2024, Santa Rosa only experienced two homicides all year. This is a very safe community, so having a call like this is quite unusual," said Santa Rosa Police Sergeant Patricia Seffens.

KTVU will follow this developing story and provide more details as they become available.
