Body recovered more than 1,000 feet deep in Lake Tahoe

STATELINE, Nev. (AP) - A search and rescue team has pulled the body of a potential drowning victim from the depths of Lake Tahoe.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office's Marine Unit 7 recovered the body Monday from a depth of 1,062 feet (323 meters).

A team of more than a dozen personnel were searching for a person who was reported to have drowned more than a week ago. The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Undersheriff Paul Howell says it's the deepest a body has ever been discovered on the bottom of Lake Tahoe. The recovery was made possible with a new remotely operated underwater vehicle using sonar radar technology.
