New Year brings changes for San Francisco Flower Mart

It’s a new year and a new location for San Francisco's Flower Mart.

As of Thursday, the popular flower shop is now at 901 16th Street in Potrero Hill, the first day at this new address.

Flower Mart had been at 6th and Brannan streets in SOMA for nearly 60 years.

Construction of the new location pushed the move back a bit.

Along with a new location, the market also has new management.

The SF Produce Market is the nonprofit in charge now.

Many of the longstanding vendors that were at the old location have moved here, but there are also expanded vendor opportunities, so there’s space for some newcomers.

JR Cude, a former flower shop owner, said he was dying to see the new place.

"Everything is a lot more convenient," he said of he new space. "There's nothing obstructing the aisles like there was in the old market. I like it a lot."

Sales work the same way - you need a badge membership to shop early and buy wholesale starting at 6 a.m.

The public can start shopping at 8 a.m.
