Over $1,000 worth of stolen meat recovered in Cupertino in 'rare case'
CUPERTINO, Calf. - Bringing home the bacon--literally, and illegally.
In what the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office is calling a "rare" case, a couple of thieves stole over $1,000 worth of meat from a Cupertino Safeway on Homestead Road.
"It’s not right. I mean that’s the type of thing that has to get passed on to the consumer, right? It’s not fair for the shoppers, it’s not fair for the business," said shopper Jeanny Morejon.
The exact day of the meat heist is unclear, but officials said it happened last week.
Authorities said a Safeway employee was able to describe the thieves and the car they fled in, and jot down the license plate number. Deputies were able to track the suspect's car at its registered home.

Officials said the stolen meats were fine rib eye and other prime cuts.
Given the meats were worth around $1,200, the stakes were too high to butcher the heist, since being caught could result in a felony under California law.
"I’m kind of glad," said shopper Ross Bernstein. "There’s been a lot of theft lately. I even go in the store and see people steal stuff all the time."
Authorities caught the suspects with the stolen goods and booked them into the Santa Clara County Main Jail.
"If you want to have something, you should pay for it, and if you steal it, and you get busted, then you should also pay for that," said Morejon.
"The only thing well-done here is the teamwork!" officials said about the theft.
