President Trump takes a swipe at San Francisco & Los Angeles
OSAKA, JAPAN (KTVU) - President Trump took a swipe at the city of San Francisco during his news conference on Saturday, closing out the G20 conference in Osaka, Japan.
Reporters asked him a wide range of questions, including trade talks with China, and pressing Russian President Vladimir Putin to make sure Moscow does not interfere in the 2020 U.S. elections.
When he was asked about Putin's claim that western-style liberalism is in decline, President Trump began to criticize San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Well again, he must feel that way. I mean he sees what's going on, and I guess if you look at what's happening in Los Angeles, where uh, it's so sad to look and what's happening in San Francisco and a couple of other cities, which are run by an extraordinary group of liberal people. I don't know what they're thinking, but he does see things that are happening in the United States that would probably preclude him from saying how wonderful it is
The press conference ended shortly afterwards.
The President also suggested that the federal government should quote "get involved" with what's happening in these U.S. cities, though he did not elaborate.
So far, neither San Francisco Mayor London Breed or Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf has responded to his statement.
