San Francisco saw nearly 100 trees topple across its parks
SAN FRANCISCO - A tornado struck Scotts Valley last weekend and rain pelted down across the Bay Area, causing cars to toss and flip, and trees to snap and fall to the ground.
In all, the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department said 98 trees across all the parks fell on Saturday and Sunday – 74 within Golden Gate Park alone.
This number includes only the park system, not the entire city of San Francisco.
Park spokesman Daniel Montes said parks might close during upcoming extreme weather events, and he advised anyone walking outside to avoid walking near trees, especially in parks, as strong gusts can topple healthy trees and snap limbs.
The National Weather Service said to beware of multiple rounds of more rain.
The first system should arrive in the Bay Area and Central Coast on Saturday.
More intense rainfall is expected on Monday and Tuesday.
The wet weather should continue into the days after Christmas, according to the weather service.
