Search for person of interest in Marin County fires
MARIN COUNTY, Calif. - UPDATE: 61-year-old man detained after six suspicious Larkspur brush fires
Police are speaking with a person of interest in connection with several suspicious brush fires set overnight in Larkspur and Corte Madera, Central Marin Police said Saturday morning.
Witnesses told police that a man wearing a hoodie was spotted near the fires, but a detailed description was not available.
Police were talking with a person in connection with the fires, but no arrests had been made as of 9 a.m., a spokesperson said.
Central Marin fire crews extinguished a half-dozen blazes, which prompted evacuations of 10 nearby homes. Residents have since been cleared to return home, according to police.
No information was immediately available about the exact locations of all the small blazes, but fire officials said that a fire in the Citron Fire Road area was contained to about 1 acre. Crews will remain at scene to mop up, fire officials said on social media.
Two other fires were reported in the Creekside area and in the area of Holly and Hawthorne Avenues.
Authorities sent out an alert about the blazes shortly before 7 a.m. An update at 8 a.m. said that the fires were contained.
