‘Real Tears’
What they're saying:
Too Short, whose real name is Todd Shaw, shared videos on Thursday of himself riding in a car with the 1970s funk band Ohio Players playing in the background. In one of the videos, captioned "real tears," the 58-year-old Oakland native removes his sunglasses and dries his teary eyes.
In the caption of a second video he posted, he wrote, "Aint really replying to a lot of texts or answering calls right now. I can’t."
The posts garnered an outpouring of thoughtful responses from fellow Bay Area rappers, as well as other lyricists and entertainers from the West Coast and beyond.

OPD arrest 11- and 13-year-olds in connection with scooter theft, death of father
Oakland police arrested an 11-year-old and a 13-year-old in connection with a scooter robbery that led to the deadly shooting of a father the day after Christmas.
The Oakland Police Department has not confirmed this, but said that based on the department's preliminary investigation, it appears an unknown number of suspects tried to use a vehicle to force their way into a property where Shaw was. When he exited the building, he was confronted by the suspects, who shot him multiple times.
Police have not announced any arrests in the case.
Authorities believe a bullet-ridden Honda Civic found stopped in the middle of the street a block from the crime scene is connected to Shaw's case. The owner of the Honda told KTVU the vehicle was stolen overnight from North Oakland.
The shooting happened not far from "Too $hort Way," which was renamed in honor of Too Short in 2022. Too Short is referred to as the Godfather of Bay Area Hip-Hop. Too $hort Way runs along Foothill Boulevard between High Street and 47th Avenue.
