Homes are still being threatened by a cluster of fires called the "Deer Fire" near Brentwood in Contra Costa County near Mount Diablo.

At one point, Cal Fire and local fire departments battled eight to ten different fires. 

Cal Fire is calling the incident the Santiago Fire.

Almost two years since a wildfire swept through his mountain town and virtually wiped it out, Steve “Woody” Culleton got to put the final touches on his new home.

Multiple fire crews are responding to a two-alarm vegetation fire in Contra Costa County Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters on Monday contained the Crews Fire, which started outside of Gilroy in rural Santa Clara County and burned 5,513 acres, Cal Fire officials said. 

The fire started shortly after 11 a.m. and quickly grew to 7+ acres.

Firefighters are spending Saturday patrolling the perimeter of the fire, east of Gilroy.

The public is being asked to avoid the area near Crews Road east of Gilroy, which has since spread eastward to the Canada Road area.

The Crews Fire has burned about 30 acres and is advancing at a moderate rate, according to Cal Fire, which said structures are threatened and additional air and ground equipment were being dispatched.

The Park Fire on a wooded ridgeline outside Morgan Hill has grown to 100 acres overnight, Cal Fire said Sunday morning.

The blaze started about 1:30 p.m. Saturday along Sheridan Road in Sunol.

The fire was first reported just before 2 p.m., Saturday.

Lutz, a native of Los Gatos and raised in Corralitos, just north of Watsonville, attended the Monterey Fire Academy and began his career as a volunteer firefighter with the Corralitos CAL FIRE station.
