Artist asks public's help in recovering stolen art pieces

A Bay Area artist is asking for the public's help in locating unique glass sculptures that were stolen from her.

"These are just empty wooden pedestals, " said Alexis Silk as she showed KTVU the trailer she had stored her artwork -- 20 pieces of glass sculptures that are now all gone.

"Each piece is hot sculpted individually without any molds," she said.

Silk now only has one glass sculpture left after a year's worth of labor was stolen from her.

"There's a lot of time and sweat and energy in all of the artwork," said Silk.

The items were in her trailer last Wednesday night. By Thursday morning, the trailer and the art work was gone.

The stolen artwork included three life-size pieces.

"My soul and my heart to my livelihood," said Silk.

The trailer was parked across the street from a friend's house when it was hauled away by thieves.

She had planned to transport everything to this weekend's Sausalito Art Festival where she had hoped to sell some pieces.

"It was pretty shocking and a very traumatic ...both emotional and financial hit," said Silk.

She doesn't think the thieves targeted her.
Police recovered the empty trailer Thursday a few hours after it was reported stolen. It was found behind a nearby business on Macdonald avenue just a few blocks from where it was stolen.

She plans to return to the studio on Tuesday to start to create new pieces, but says they can not replace the ones that were stolen.

"It's incredibly sad. These pieces have so much valuable to me but I know that they will have absolutely no value to the people who stole them," said Silk.

The artist estimates her total loss to be $150,000.

She's offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the return of her artwork.
