Coast Guard rescues trapped woman from Daly City cliff
DALY CITY, Calif. - DALY CITY (KTVU and wires) – A Coast Guard helicopter crew airlifted a woman to safety early Wednesday after she spend the night stranded halfway down a 300-foot Daly City coastline cliff, authorities said.
North County fire spokesman Klaus Zalinskis said a 57-year-old woman, 27-year-old and two dogs tumbled down the cliff near Thornton State Beach during a walk around midnight.
“The male was able to get up and contact a nearby resident who called the fire department,” he said.
Complicating the rescue, Zalinskis said was the fact that the woman’s two pit bulls that also fell 150 feet down the cliff were “agitated” and guarding their owner.
The crews were still attempting to rescue the dogs.
The woman was taken to a local hospital. Her condition was not known.
