Injured bloodhound rescued after getting hit by car

A terrified bloodhound dog was spotted alone and terrified on a California highway before getting hit by a passing car.

A Placer County deputy was driving eastbound on Highway 80 east of Penryn, California. They deputy saw the bloodhound run frantically across the highway while motorists tried to avoid hitting it. Then the dog ran in the opposite direction and was hit, becoming pinned with its paw under one of the rear tires.

Using a floor jack, the deputy and a California Highway Patrol were able to life the car and remove the dog. It was taken to Loomis Basin Veterinarian Clinic for treatment, where his owner showed up. The dog had no broken bones, just lacerations and a road rash.
