One person is in custody after a pursuit on Interstate 580 Tuesday morning that stretched from Dublin to Oakland and ended in gunfire.

Authorities say the California Highway Patrol Stockton division alerted officers in Dublin of a silver Chevrolet Impala that was driving recklessly.

An officer spotted a vehicle matching the description on westbound I-580 and attempted to initiate a stop, but the driver kept going.

A chase ensued into the CHP Castro Valley jurisdiction. Two officers assigned to the area entered the pursuit which ended on westbound I-580 near the Highway 24 interchange.

According to CHP, the suspect vehicle tried to overtake an East Bay Paratransit vehicle by driving between the bus and a concrete wall, which caused the suspect vehicle to become stuck between the two.

Officers tried to block the suspect vehicle using the patrol car's push bumpers.

The driver of the suspect vehicle then started ramming the occupied patrol car and the paratransit vehicle, CHP said.

An officer discharged a firearm but did not strike the suspect, authorities say.

Officers were able to initiate an arrest, despite the suspect's continued physical resistance.

No officers nor the suspect were injured in the incident.

CHP said the suspect appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance.

The highway was closed for several hours but reopened around 3:00 p.m.
