Livermore cops seek bank robber

KNOW THIS BANK ROBBERY SUSPECT: Livermore police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who robbed a bank over the weekend.
The holdup happened at the U.S. Bank at 2125 Second St. about 12:45 p.m. Saturday.
The man walked into the bank, brandished a gun at a teller and demanded money.
He fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
He was wearing a Cal baseball cap and a red and white plaid shirt.

CHP ARRESTS SUSPECT AFTER FIERY CHASE: A San Leandro man was arrested early today after he led CHP officers on a wild chase that only ended when his SUV caught on fire.
Terry Nguyen, 29, gave up only because he had been driving only on his rims because CHP officers had deployed a "spike strip" that disabled his tires, authorities said.
The incident began about 1:30 a.m. when Oakland CHP officers tried to stop a GMC Yukon for not having license plates on westbound Interstate 580 near Highway 13.
Nguyen refused to stop, and the chase was on, the CHP said.
The suspect got off the freeway and then went back onto I-580 in the eastbound direction, authorities said. He drove into Castro Valley and then back to Hayward on Interstate 880, the CHP said. He ended up heading north on I-880 in Oakland.
"On all these freeways, the suspect stayed at or below the speed limit," the CHP said.
CHP officers set out a spike strip on I-880 near Davis Street in San Leandro. It deflated the Yukon's tires, and Nguyen ended up driving only on the SUV's rims, the CHP said.
He got off the freeway at 98th Avenue in East Oakland and continued on city streets before the SUV caught fire, the CHP said. He finally stopped and gave up near 106th and Longfellow avenues, authorities said.
Nguyen was arrested on suspicion of felony evading arrest, drug possession, DUI and driving on a suspended license.
FIVE HELD IN CHILD-PORN CASE: A San Francisco police investigation into a child-porn ring has led to five arrests across the state, authorities said today.
The investigation began in March when the department's Internet Crimes Against Children unit identified Gary Waite, 38 and Danica Morais, 34, as suspects who allegedly uploaded and distributed child pornography online.
Investigators then identified Lorenzo Brown, 36, as someone who had been received and saved child porn that Waite had sent him, police said.
Police also learned that Morais had been sending child porn to suspects in Sacramento and Los Angeles, investigators said. Michael Brown, 42, and Justyn Tomblyn, 35, were arrested in those respective cities.
