Man arrested with sniper rifle at Santa Cruz hotel
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KTVU) - A man was booked into jail after he was found with a sniper rifle in a Santa Cruz hotel, according to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office.
The Santa Cruz Sheriff's Office tells KTVU the gang task force had information which led to a search warrant at the hotel on Ocean Street.
While searching Tuesday, officers found a high powered scoped rife along with ammunition which included two rifle magazines.
David Gomez was arrested for illegal possession of ammunition and for being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail.
Gomez's bail was set at $25,000.
The Santa Cruz Sheriff's Office tells KTVU this was an unusual arrest because they don't recover a lot of scoped rifles in the area.
At this point, additional details have not been released.
