Man dies in early morning Oakland home fire
OAKLAND, Calif. (KTVU and wires) -- A man died in a fire at a home in the Oakland hills early Wednesday morning, a fire battalion chief said.
Firefighters responded around 4:50 a.m. to a report of smoke in the area of El Patio Street, a cul-de-sac off of Mountain Boulevard, Oakland Fire Battalion Chief James Bowron said.
Crews saw a large amount of smoke coming out of a chimney at a home and went in to find a fire burning in the kitchen.
While extinguishing the fire, which was brought under control around 5:20 a.m., firefighters searched the home and found a man in cardiac arrest in a bedroom, according to Bowron.
The man was taken out of the house and crews performed CPR before taking him to Highland Hospital, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The name of the man was not immediately available.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
