New FDA regulations on e-cigarettes
WASHINGTON D.C. (KTVU) - Starting August 8, the Food and Drug Administration will regulate all e-cigarettes, cigars, and hookahs.
Sales to minors will also now be prohibited.
Before this new rule, there was no federal law prohibiting sales of e-cigarettes, hookah tobacco, or cigars to minors.
Mitch Zeller J.D., Director of the FDA's Center for Tobacco Products says, "We have a huge public health problem with kids' use of e-cigarettes, hookah and cigars. Kids' use of e-cigarettes has gone up by over 900% in the last five years."
