No charges filed against suspect in SF Pacific Heights fatal stabbing

A man arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a woman in Pacific Heights has been released without charges, prosecutors said today.

Eugene Bell, 59, was released from custody after prosecutors determined there was insufficient evidence to file charges at this time, according to Alex Bastian, a spokesman for the district attorney's office.

The case remains under investigation, Bastian said.

Bell was arrested in connection with the death of Donna Montilliano on Sunday.

Montilliano, a 63-year-old San Francisco resident, was found suffering from a stab wound after police were called to the 2600 block of California Street around 4:45 p.m.

She was taken to a hospital, but later died.

Police have not said what they believe to be the motive in the stabbing.
