Oakland police arrest woman with dog in stolen police vehicle
OAKLAND, Calif. - A woman faces auto theft charges after police say she stole an Oakland Police service technician vehicle Thursday afternoon and took it for a ride from West Oakland to San Francisco.
When police tracked down the woman and the car an hour and a half later near the Bay Bridge Toll Plaza, they found a dog in the back seat.
The white Ford Escape was stolen at around 12:30 p.m. at 21st and Myrtle streets in west Oakland while police were investigation an assault with a deadly weapon.
Then around 2:00 p.m., police say someone with animal services spotted the stolen car. They called officers who pulled the car over and arrested the woman.
Police are trying to identify who owns the dog.
The dog has been taken to animal services and police say to call that department if anyone recognizes the dog.
