Officials: Passenger smoked on plane from SFO diverted in San Jose

Mineta San Jose International Airport

SAN JOSE (BCN) An airline passenger was turned over to authorities in San Jose this afternoon after the passenger was allegedly smoking in a lavatory on a Southwest Airlines flight bound for Los Angeles, company officials said.

Flight 1250 was on its way from San Francisco to Los Angeles when it was diverted to Mineta San Jose International Airport where it landed safely at 4:10 p.m.

Airport officials in San Jose had said the plane was experiencing "mechanical difficulties" before it made an emergency landing.

The diversion did not cause any flight delays at Mineta San Jose International Airport and no one was injured.

Southwest employees are arranging flights for the other 32 passengers who were on the flight, airline officials said.
