Pastor killed in stabbing

A church community on the Peninsula is reeling from the death of its leader and what makes the loss even harder to handle is that police say the pastor was killed by his own son.

Cherry blossoms in bloom speak of the oncoming spring outside the Mount Olive Church in Menlo Park.

"It's a good church," said a church member.  But this church community is now mourning its leader. "He just had a lot of energy. And he wasn't shy to talk about how he felt," said another church member.

Pastor Teman Bostic was killed at his home in San Leandro on Friday morning. Police found a gruesome scene when they arrived to calls of a disturbance.

San Leandro Police Lieutenant Robert McManus described the scene, saying, "Isaiah Bostic, 21 years old, opened that front door, covered in blood on his hands, blood on his clothing. The officers quickly went inside to see if there was anybody inside injured, and they came across Bishop Bostic and he was later pronounced dead at the scene."

The killing happened in a tidy apartment complex on Juana Avenue around 5:30 am. "It's so unreal. It's shocking," added a church member.

Teman Bostic, whose mother had founded the Mt. Olive Church, was a pastor with a powerful preaching style.
One of Bostic's neighbors told KTVU Bostic had lived in the apartment for some time, but that his son had moved in more recently.

"Residents at the apartment complex had called to report hearing struggle, some sort of physical altercation, and a male voice saying, "Daddy's bleeding, I don't want to die," explained Lt. McManus.

Isaiah Bostic is behind bars, facing a murder charge. Police say they recovered a knife that they believe was the murder weapon. "It just doesn't make sense to a lot of people as to why a 21 year old son would kill his father," added McManus.

The church community is saying little, just releasing a statement that says the pastor, Bishop Bostic "will be greatly missed. We are soliciting your prayers during our time of great loss."

Police say they expect Isaiah Bostic to appear in court on Tuesday or Wednesday to face charges that he killed his father.
