Right lane of WB I-780 in Benicia blocked due to brush fire

BENICIA, Calif. (KTVU) - The right lane of westbound I-780 at Southampton Road remains blocked due to a brush fire in Benicia after all lanes were closed.

The fire has been contained, but Benicia Fire Department says crews will stay on-scene through the night. 

California Highway Patrol said as of 8:51 p.m. traffic was being diverted off to Columbus Parkway. The Columbus Parkway on ramp is closed. A severe traffic alert is in effect. 

The fire appears to have started around 6:40 p.m. and reached three alarms, according to Benicia Fire Department. They are receiving assistance from Vallejo Fire and Fairfield Fire departments. 

Motorists are advised to expect delays and to use alternate routes to avoid the area and to avoid Benicia State Park.  

There is no estimated time to reopen the roadway.
