San Rafael Police arrest robbery suspect armed with AR-15, high capacity magazine
SAN RAFAEL, Calif. (KTVU/BCN) - A robbery suspect armed with a rifle was arrested in San Rafael Wednesday, after the robbery victim was able to fight back and detain the man as police arrived.
At 10:15 p.m., officers responded to a report of robbery in progress at an apartment in the 800 block of B Street, according to police.
As they were on their way, officers learned that a suspect was being held down by one of the victims.
Upon arrival, officers were able to detain the suspect, identified as Bertrell Lewis, 41, of Fremont, police said.
A second robbery suspect allegedly fled the scene before police arrived.
The victims said Lewis and the second suspect entered the apartment and Lewis pointed a rifle at them. One of the victims was able to grab the rifle and pull it away from Lewis.
At the scene, officers located an AR-15 rifle and high capacity magazine, according to police.
Officers arrested Lewis on suspicion of attempted robbery, burglary, possession of an assault weapon, possession of a high capacity magazine and conspiracy. He was being held on $75,000 bail, police said.
Police are continuing to investigate the identity of the second suspect.
