Sheriff's investigating car chase, shots fired in Pacheco
PACHECO, Calif. (KTVU) - The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office is investigating a chase that ended with a police shooting in Pacheco last night.
The sheriff's office says the incident began when they responded to a possible burglary near Actriz Avenue in Martinez. They did not find any evidence of that, but deputies did see a stolen vehicle.
Sheriffs say when they tried to pull the stolen vehicle over, the driver, 34-year-old Joey Carroll of Pittsburg, did not stop and led the officers on a pursuit.
When Carroll pulled into the gas station at the foot of the Pacheco off-ramp on I-680, deupties got out of their cars. That's when the suspect rammed into the patrol car.
The sheriff's office says a deputy fired two rounds at Carroll, who drove toward I-680. He was not struck.
He drove the wrong way on the freeway off-ramp and hit another car. He was arrested.
The driver of the other vehicle and Carroll suffered minor injuries.
