Suspicious package near San Jose State deemed safe
SAN JOSE, Calif. (KTVU) - A suspicious package near San Jose State University was deemed to be safe early Tuesday evening, according to police.
Streets are now reopened and residents who were evacuated are now allowed back into their homes.
San Jose Police Department responded at around 2:52 p.m. to the report of a possible burglary at a storage unit on the 200 block of S. 4th Street. Responding officers found evidence of a burglary as well as the suspicious device. The department's Bomb Squad was then called in to deal with the device.
At around 4:20 p.m., the tactical team could still be seen at the scene near 3rd and San Carlos streets. Police evacuated the surrounding area as a precautionary measure.
The media relations director for SJSU said while traffic was affected, there were no evacuations ordered on campus, and that classes remain in session.
